SMTP error when setting up Google Work Spaces account

If you get the following error when setting up your professional Google Work Spaces account (with your domain): don’t waste any more time looking for settings on Google.

We were unable to connect to the outgoing server (SMTP). Check the outgoing server (SMTP) settings and try again.

The solution:

Download the application that Google has prepared to solve your mail (Gmail) problems with Outlook.

The following versions of Outlook support OAuth:

  • Microsoft 365 Outlook (PC version)
  • Outlook 2019
  • Outlook 2016

The application is called GSSMO and can be found here:

Download it, run it, enter your credentials and you’re done.

You may be asked to create a profile (in my case yes, because I work for many companies and I separate them into profiles):
